I love reading.
I expected way too much when my son was first born. "They" tell you to read to your child from day one. However, my kid was not even remotely interested in listening to me read. Sing, yes. He loved (and still loves) singing. But, reading? BO-RING. About 2 weeks ago, I started doing the Read-Along Challenge. Just five minutes a day. Boy, things are starting to turn around. Sure, he's older now….there's that. But somehow, the bite-sized commitment of five minutes a day is something that we really CAN do. We've been reading Ian Fleming's Chitty Chitty Bang Bang - an old copy that I found in my husband's parents' attic about five years ago. I like reading my husband's beloved childhood book to our boy. Having watched us a few times, now my husband wants to get in on the fun. "Do you have any Bible stories that I can read to him?" Ha ha ha ha ha ha! Why, yes. Yes, I do. When I found out I was expecting, I went online and purchased my favorite Bible stories book from when I was a little girl. So, looks like we are reading together as a family. Things are tough right now - sure - my career is flat-lined and living on one income is challenging - but we are reading. Hooray!
