My husband set up the Christmas tree on December 1st and we still haven't decorated it.
What happened was: we had a difficult Thanksgiving weekend out of state (illnesses in our extended family), travelled back to NYC, then I got sick, then we had tech week for the Advent concert, then the performance, THEN...my husband had surgery on Monday and it wound up being a little trickier than we had originally anticipated, then....
...as I was waiting in the hospital waiting room (for HOURS!), I felt a tickle in my throat. No. No, no, no, no, no. I assume it was stress-related or perhaps the let down from having the show over, but I was getting sick AGAIN. I don't normally get sick. Twice in the span of ten days is pretty obnoxious.
Our tree is a fake with pre-attached lights. It has spent the first third of the holiday season looking like this:
This is a welcome departure from "OH-MAH-GOD-TREEEEEEE!!! THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU! DANGLING SHINY THINGS FOR MY HUNTING ENJOYMENT!!!"
See? Look at my perfectly calm and well-behaved Christmas cat:
I figured I'd leave the tree the way it is this year because - whatever - we have a lot going on right now. It's pretty enough with just the lights. But yesterday, my husband came home from the hospital and decided that he would make it his job to put at least 15 ornaments on the tree per day while he's recuperating. ("It's a project. It'll give me something to do.") Far be it for me to keep him from looking forward to doing something everyday while he gets better...
...it looks like I'll be chasing cats for the rest of the month, after all.
